Mikayla Lacey
Artist member since 2020
Toronto, Ontario
Mikayla Lacey’s work explores the way vulnerability can be used as a tool for creation. She draws upon the intimate experiences of both herself and her peers through paint – investigating the gritty, messy, prickly parts of the human experience on canvas. Her work is chaotic and emotionally driven, as she reimagines various ways to combine figurative imagery and text with the realm of abstraction. Instead of depicting bodies in their entirety, Lacey allows them to merge freely with their surroundings; enabling a constant conversation between gentle washes, and dynamic mark making.
Mikayla Lacey studied Fine Art at OCAD University in both Toronto and Florence, Italy. During the completion of her degree, she was published in blogto’s “25 Artists to watch from the OCAD graduation exhibition” and was presented both the Mercedes Benz Entrance Scholarship and Ann Adler Kagan Award.
